In order to increase the security of the public, City police have joined hands with traders in the city to setup around 3,000 surveillance cameras. The initiative is aimed at providing better surveillance and security for the public.<\/p>\n
According to the initiative, around 3,000 cameras will be installed across the district by the 250 units of Kerala Vyapari Vyavasayi Ekopana Samithi. The work will be completed the task over the next two months. The feed from the cameras are directly fed to nearest police stations.<\/p>\n
These cameras, apart from those installed by the police, would be a major move in keeping at bay many antisocial elements, known to create nuisance at spots where there was no physical presence of the police. The police can monitor and come up with timely response in the event of a crime or an emergency. The footage will also act as a visual evidence to be submitted to courts and act as a deterrent for criminals at the same time.<\/p>\n
The project was implemented on an experimental basis under the Maranalloor police station limits, with the Samithi installing cameras at the Ooruttambalam junction. In early October 16 cameras were installed at the Kilimanoor junction, with the feed now being monitored at the Kilimanoor police station. The Mudakkal junction near Attingal soon followed with eight cameras covering the entire junction.<\/p>\n
The Samithi\u2019s units, which will be looking after the maintenance of the cameras as well, are mobilising funds to expand the initiative to the entire district. The effort is expected to gather momentum once the local body polls are over.<\/p>\n
