Karamana-Kaliyikkavila four-laning project gets a new deadline after it missed the earlier deadline which was on October 23. The tentative deadline for completing the four-laning of the first reach of the project has been revised to November 30.<\/p>\n
Various factors such as difficulties in land acquisition hindered the progress of the work as the district administration could not complete the acquisition process on time.\u00a0 The main factors that bogged down the project was the issue on the relocation of the mosque and tomb in Pappanamcode and frequent rain in the city.<\/p>\n
Four cents of land belonged to KSRTC has been given to shift the mosque at Pappanamcode.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
However, the work is expected to speed up as the State government issued an order to sanction four cents of land from the premises of the KSRTC Central Works at Pappanamcode for shifting the mosque. With the election over, the mosque and a village office building at Nemom will be demolished soon.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the laying of the base layer of the road using bituminous macadam (BM) on the stretch has been hindered by the frequent rain. The officials hopes to complete the work before November 30, if the rain stays away.<\/p>\n
Another issue that remains unsolved is the issue regarding the median openings. The construction of the median along 800 metres near Karakkamandapam has been put off, owing to the demand raised by certain institutions for openings in the median. But the officials says that their demand is unjustifiable as there is a median opening around 50 m ahead.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the land acquisition work along the next stretch from Pravachambalam to Balaramapuram yet to start. The compensation for the people affected by road widening has been approved by the state-level purchase committee.
