Although the officials are optimistic about completing the works in two months, utility lines remain a major hurdle for lot of works. This includes power cables, phone lines and pipes for drinking water and sewage. In case of slight displacement, there is going to be a disruption in utility supply and officials are very conscious while shifting the lines.<\/p>\n
“The mindless laying of cables has badly affected the work. This has cost us additional expense as well<\/em>,” said district collector Biju Prabhakar.<\/p>\n An amount of Rs 30 lakh has been allocated from the fund to various departments just to shift various utility lines which has delayed several works under Operation Anantha.<\/p>\n Utility lines such as \u00a0power cables, phone lines and pipes for drinking water remain a major hurdle for lot of works.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Meanwhile, the minor irrigation department has been entrusted with widening of old drains. The drain which begins from Thycaud Hospital running through Valiyasala, Chenthitta, Gramam and Pattavarayar temple till Attakulangara bypass will be widened. The construction of two culverts as part of the project has already been completed. The drain is being constructed using reinforced cement concrete covering a total distance of 330m and the project is being done at a cost of Rs 1.28 crore.<\/p>\n Two more drains will also be constructed from Marakkada road and fish market at Chalai and three drains starting from Kuriathi will also be widened. Hopefully this will ensure that waterlogging in and around the areas of Chalai is completely avoided. The present dimension of drain is such that catchment area for water is very low and mostly water overflows resulting in flooding.<\/p>\n Currently, 14 works are being undertaken by seven departments under Operation Anantha.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Seven months after Operation Anantha was launched, city residents are still facing hardship with north-west monsoon gaining strength.
