Soon all 100 wards in the Trivandrum Corporation will be declared as clean wards, said Mayor V.K. Prasanth.<\/p>\n
The decentralised waste treatment using biogas plants and pipe-compost units will be extended to all the 100 wards under the city Corporation. Currently, the decentralised waste treatment is going on in 50 wards. A meeting of various heads of the civic body will be convened soon to make plans for extending decentralised waste management.<\/p>\n
Mayor also said that, the corporation is planning to setup mini waste treatment plants in association with the residents associations. Civic body will also conduct various awareness campaigns to educate the citizens and to check the random disposal of plastic.<\/p>\n
Trivandrum Corporation will also challenge the directive of the National Green Tribunal’s (NGT) Chennai Bench to close down the Vilappilsala centralised garbage treatment plant. Mayor also said that Vilappilsala will not be turned into a one-stop point to dump all the waste from the city.<\/p>\n
According to Corporation, city generates 400 tonnes of garbage per day, of which the decentralised mechanisms set up by the Corporation can process up to 200 tonnes. 100 more tonnes can be processed when the decentralisation plan is introduced in more areas. Then, the remaining quantity, may go to the Vilappilsala plant if it turns functional.<\/p>\n
Corporation will improve 20 selected junctions. Landscaping and traffic improvements will also be done at these junctions. The civic body will ensure better lighting on streets and will also control the stray dog menace. More corporation services will be made available online so that people can limit their visit to the offices. The civic body would also look into whether it can procure the machinery for the engineering wing to take care of the repairs of the pot-holes on the roads under the Corporation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
