Neglected Shankumugham Beach will be undergo a massive facelift, says tourism department.<\/p>\n

A new project called ‘Beautification of Shankumugham Beach’ which aims to beautify our Shankumugham is being carried out by the Tourism Department. Already, the first phase of the project is progressing in full swing at the beach.<\/p>\n

Three food stalls near Coffee House and three more near Kalmandapam.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

According to the project, six food courts are being setup at two location in the beach. Three food court will come up at the place near the old Coffee House and the rest three are being constructed near Kalmandapam. The construction works have entered the final phase. The design and execution of the project is done by Harbour Engineering Department.<\/p>\n

Cleaning up of \u2018Arattukulam\u2019 will be taken up only in second phase.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The road leading to Shankumugham South Palace is being repaired and wide footpaths will be constructed on either side of the road to accommodate the large number of pedestrians. Landscaping and beautification will also be part of the first phase. The first phase is being carried out at a cost of Rs.2.5 Crore.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile in the second phase, cleaning up of \u2018Arattukulam\u2019 will be taken up. Currently, Arattukulam is filled with waste dumped by visitors coming to Shankumugham. Modification of the Kalmandapams, park and better lighting system are part of the project.<\/p>\n
