In a bid to prevent extortion by private ambulance operators, a pre-paid ambulance service will be launched at Trivandrum medical college hospital soon.<\/p>\n
Being launched under the initiative of District Collector Biju Prabhakar, the pre-paid ambulance services aims to prevent fleecing by private ambulance operators, misuse of the services and to streamline them.<\/p>\n
Five ambulance will be parked at the pre-paid counter all the time.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Only those ambulances registered with the pre-paid counter will be allowed entry into the hospital premises. A pre-paid counter will opened on the premises and will cater to the needs of the medical college, dental college, SAT, RCC, and SCTIMST. Those who need the service will have to pay the fare in advance at the counter.<\/p>\n
According to the plan, 5 ambulances will be parked in the counter at a time. Ambulances of the Hospital Development Committee will be given top priority. Those offering free service will get the second priority. Others will be given opportunity on turn basis. Only one ambulance of a registered owner will be allowed to operate through the pre-paid counter. Those refusing to go on any of the trips will have to wait till the turn is completed.<\/p>\n
The service offered by the pre-paid counter will be reviewed every month to rectify any problem.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
The price will be fixed by RTO and HDC will appoint the staff to operate the counter. A sum will be collected from the owners of the ambulance to pay the salary and allowances of the counter staff.
