Distinguished businessman and philanthropist Kochouseph Chittilappilly has started his 24-hour hunger strike at the LMS compound today noon demanding the government to take effective action to curb stray dog menace across the state.<\/p>\n

This is the third time he is conducting fast for the same reason, the earlier ones being in Ernakulam and Kozhikode.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Several organizations including Federation of Residents\u2019 Association Trivandrum (FRAT)\u00a0are being associated with this initiative.<\/p>\n

No effective action has been taken by the government till now even though protests are being staged at different parts of the state. The hunger strike is also a protest against government\u2019s ineffectiveness in controlling stray dog menace. Through this movement he hopes to create more awareness among the people regarding this and produce good reaction from them.<\/p>\n

The strike has been well received by the people even though it garnered opposition and criticism from many. \u201cThe response from the people here is overwhelming. It\u2019s very nice to see people coming over here and sharing their experiences and opinions on this issue. Everyone should have good awareness about this, should react well to the issue, and then only we can stop this threat. That\u2019s what I hope to achieve through this movement<\/em>\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n

Earlier, a writ petition was filed by Sajeeva Karuna Parivar Trust at Kerala High Court to avert the hunger strike alleging it will send wrong message to the public. However, the High Court had declined to issue directive against the hunger strike.<\/p>\n

\u201cEveryone has the right to protest. There is absolutely no issue in having dogs as pets. The strike is against stray dog menace, it\u2019s for the safety of people. We live in a world where we can slaughter poor beings like goat, pig and buffalo. What is the forte of stray dogs then<\/em>?\u201d he asks.<\/p>\n
