Trivandrum is all geared up for the Attukal Pongala festival here on Tuesday.\u00a0 City Corporation and the police have made necessary arrangements for the smooth conduct of Pongala.<\/p>\n
More than 3,500 police personnel and 70 additional surveillance cameras will keep track of the proceedings. Around 30 women and men from the City Shadow Police team too will be managing affairs in and around the temple. This will be apart from the presence of the Rapid Action Force, Thunderbolt Commandos, and Disaster Management Authority personnel. Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad, sniffer dogs, metal detectors and round-the-clock monitoring from the Special Police Control Room at Attukal and the City police Control Room, too, will be part of the arrangements.<\/p>\n

The waste generated during \u2018Pongala\u2019 will be cleaned within hours after the ritual and roads will be washed with water. Close to 3,000 workers and 55 lorries will carry out the massive clean-up operation. Civic body will use f 20 of its own trucks and 35 rented trucks to transport waste.\u00a0 Arrangements have been made for the distribution of drinking water at all areas where Pongala is offered.<\/p>\n
The voluntary organisations, which carry out distribution of food and water have been asked to avoid the use of disposable plates and cups. As part of Green Protocol, 10,000 steel tumblers and 3,000 plates have been collected from city residents.<\/p>\n
