This palace is the typical example of the traditional Travancore style architecture. The palace currently serves as a palace museum with 20 out of 80 rooms opened for public. A guided tour of the palace will take you through priceless collections like life-size\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kathakali\">Kathakali<\/a>\u00a0mannequins, crystal chandeliers, Belgian mirrors, paintings, musical instruments, royal thrones etc. Another greatest attraction is the 3D painting of Sri Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma by famous painter Svetoslav Roerich. Every year Swathi Sangeethotsavam is conducted from January 6th-12th in honor of Sri Swathi Thirunal at the palace courtyard. The Puthenmalika Palace Museum is open for public from 8.30 AM to 1.00 PM and 3.00 PM to 5.30 PM on all days except Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t miss out the Sree Uthradom Thirunal Marthanda Varma Chithralayam at the nearby Ranga Vilasom Palace if you want to have a photo walk through the prestigious past of Travancore.<\/p>\n<h3>3. The palace which is situated at a distance of 50km from Trivandrum boasts off some of the finest architecture of olden times, a visit to this palace will be a definitive treat for everyone. With a collection of mural paintings, Belgian mirrors, earthern urns, antique furniture and ceilings carved of rosewood, this palace gifts us a unique experience. The clock tower which houses a 300 year old clock that still keeps time is another specialty on this palace. The palace is open to public from 9am to 5pm on all days except Monday.<\/p>\n<h3>4. The palace was built by Sri Moolam Thirunal for conducting royal ceremonies and later turned out to be the venue for entertaining guests of the royal family. Now under the control of Kerala government, the palace and its premises act as a cultural center of the city. The palace complex constitutes two open-air auditoriums namely Nishagandhi and Sooryakanthi. The Department of Tourism conducts an all India Dance Festival here every year from October to March. The museum which is adjacent to the Kanakakunnu palace exhibits an incomparable collection of ornaments, ivory carvings, chariots, bronze idols, historic relics etc. The museum which is famous for its natural air conditioning system gives a greater vision into the splendid history and tradition of Kerala. The museum grounds also houses the Sree Chithra Art Gallery and a zoological park. The art gallery exhibits the eminent works of Sri Raja Ravi Varma and Nicholas Roerich.<\/p>\n<h3>6. It is also has a Folklore museum to its credit. The Numismatics museum displays a wide number of coins belonging to different regions and era. The Folklore museum takes us through the way of life of Keralities of different periods displaying household utensils, models of art and folk, musical instruments etc. The extremely rare musical instruments like Chandravalayam and Nanthuni can be found only in this palace museum. Though a bit far from the city, you will visit if you don\u2019t want to miss some rare collections. The palace is open to public from 9am to 5pm on all days except Monday.<\/p>\n<h3>7. The fort built in 1695 served as the first signaling station for the ships from England. The fort was also the venue for revolt of Attingal in 1721. The fort served as the store house of ammunition for the British during the Anglo Mysore war of 18th century. The neighboring lighthouse is a pleasure to watch. The palace is renowned as it is the birthplace of Raja Ravi Varma, the celebrated Indian painter. The Kilimanoor Palace, spread over 15 acres of land comprises the traditional residential structures of Kerala like the Nalukettu, small and medium sized buildings, ponds, wells and sacred groves. At the Kilimanoor Palace, the main entrance leads one to the studio, where Raja Ravi Varma used to spend a great deal of time for realizing some of his finest creations.<\/p>\n<p>So there you have it!
