Most activities undertaken along the 26.5-km stretch have come to a halt due to the protest that started a week ago. This is due to the unavailability of the required earth for the formation of sub-grade, the basic foundation of the road. The activities that continued without any hurdles was the construction of pile foundation for the proposed bridge, parallel to the existing one at Akkulam.<\/p>\n
NHAI has expressed concern that such issues could delay the project. At this pace, project cannot be completed within the time frame of 24 month as mandated by the contract that had come into effect in June last year. There is much more to be completed to reach the halfway mark.<\/p>\n
The work was delayed for over 5 months in the initial stage due to protest from environmentalists over cutting of trees!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Due to the current issue around 400 labourers and numerous vehicles and machines are remaining idle. The NHAI is hoping that the district administration would take the lead in settling the dispute and permitting the excavation of earth.<\/p>\n
