The NH-66 stretch from Karamana to Pravachambalam has been prone to accidents ever since road widening took place. The delay in installing traffic signals on this stretch has been cited as the prime reason for the incessant accidents. KELTRON had submitted a project proposal on this a month back and the Kerala Road Safety Authority (KRSA) is yet to act on this. Now, the residents associations are planning to initiate agitation against inattention of the authorities towards this.<\/p>\n

The project estimate of nearly Rs.1 crore submitted by Keltron was approved by the PWD and Kerala Police four months back. Later it was forwarded to KRSA and no progress has been recorded till now. The proposal seeks to fix 10 traffic signals at different spots of the stretch, namely Neeramankara, Kaimanam, Pappanamcode, near the KSRTC depot at Pappanamcode, Sreeragam Junction, Karakkamandapam, Pazhaya Karakkamandapam, Nemom and Vellayani (two signals).<\/p>\n
The initial works for installing the traffic signals such as the laying of underground ducts has been done. The commissioning of the traffic signals will take at least one month once the project estimate has been approved. However, reports suggest that the KRSA has not even conducted a meeting after the project proposal was received.
