Our city has been a courteous host for too many art forms. However, the painting exhibition \u2018Alter Bodies\u2019 by the illustrious artist Sajitha R Shankar gave a completely new experience to the audience.<\/p>\n

The paintings deal more with the sensual and sensitive aspects of the human body. Started working in 2009, it took seven years for the evolution of Alter Bodies.<\/p>\n

The exhibition was even noted for the use of organic color based paintings and usage of dried plantain stem as canvas!<\/p>\n

\u201cSome years back I worked on the life and poems of Saint Akka Mahadevi who lived some 200 years ago. That\u2019s when I started experiencing changes in my body, it was like a metamorphosis and that lead to the conceiving of Alter Bodies. The paintings are a reflection of what I\u2019m experiencing in my body. Many people have talked about women and sexuality, but all that explored till the skin only. But there\u2019s something beyond that, which I\u2019m communicating through my paintings. It\u2019s the experiences and intuitions I had\u201d, she added.<\/p>\n
