As part of making Shanghumugham beach more attractive to tourists and city folks, Kerala Tourism is setting up a leisure and recreational zone. The Rs.5 crore work is nearing completion.<\/p>\n
The project includes construction of paved footpaths, beach furniture to enjoy the view, walkway and many more.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
The 900-metre road that runs almost parallel to the beach, from the beach junction to near the South Palace, will be made free from the vehicles once the work gets completed. A paved footpath has been set up on either side of the road and is given a cement concrete block topping. While the beach furniture and lighting will make the area more attractive. Parking facility has been arranged on the right side of the beach junction.<\/p>\n
The entire beach stretch, including the mermaid park, will be made a leisure zone. A walkway has been created for the hassle-free movement of pedestrians. The adjacent indoor recreation centre, another landmark on the beach, has already been given a facelift. Tea and ice-cream stalls will be shifted to various locations so that beauty of the beach will be affected. Apart from this, separate zones will be given for children and elders, a play area, an open air theatre, a video hall and refreshment counters.<\/p>\n
The renovation of the ancient \u2018Aratukulam\u2019 which is now in a dilapidated condition will be taken up soon.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Another important work is the renovation of the ancient \u2018Aratukulam\u2019 which is now in a dilapidated condition, filled with garbage. The landmark Kalmandapam will be refurbished to enhance its heritage value.
