The tarring of the NH-66 bypass stretch from Kazhakuttam to Mukkola has started.<\/p>\n

The work that a week ago, has been completed along a distance of around 600 metres. The target is to tar 2.5 kilometres till Technopark within a month.<\/p>\n

The work will be done with minimal disruption of traffic. However, NHAI officials said that, more progress could have been made had it not been for the material shortage that is beginning to affect the project.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the work on the Mukkola side is progressing well. The construction of a 4-km-long retaining wall here was nearing completion. The formation of the sub-grade along the same stretch was also progressing simultaneously.<\/p>\n

The construction of the bridge at Akkulam parallel to the existing one has started. Over 20 piles out of the total 90 have been constructed.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the design of the proposed 1.2M flyover at Kazhakootam junction<\/a> are in the final stage. Two layouts designed by NHAI will be sent its headquarters at New Delhi within two weeks for final approval. Once NHAI gets the approval, the construction work is likely to begin in three months\u2019 time.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, the recent impasse over earth excavation from Akkulam has slowed down the project. NHAI was pursuing alternative options to ensure that the project did not go off planned track.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
