A few months ago we heard the news of A\/c bus stops coming to the capital city. Now more information about the project has been revealed.<\/p>\n

It is reported that, the district authorities of KSRTC have initiated steps to set up a first-of-its-kind air-conditioned waiting sheds for passengers in the city.<\/p>\n

The initiative falls under KSRTC’s mission to upgrade capital city’s transport system into metro standards.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The Unique Numbering System for Bus Routes (UNSBR) project in the city also falls under this mission. Both initiatives are modelled on successful systems functional in metro cities in other states.<\/p>\n

According to the proposal, the A\/c bus stops will have facilities like FM radio, Wi-Fi and even ATMs. Apart from this it will also have basic amenities like drinking water facility, electronic information boards which tells the time and schedule of the buses, LED lighting, mobile charging stations etc.<\/p>\n

“This is modelled on systems that exist in other states such as Tamil Nadu,” <\/em>a KSRTC official said. It is an income-generating model, in which the bus shelter would be leased out to banks that install ATMs. Advertising revenue can also be levied from the banks<\/em>, the official said.<\/p>\n

Five A\/c bus shelters will be constructed in the first phase on an experimental basis. University College Hostel, Palayam, near University Library canteen on the VJT-Asan Square Road, near Students Centre, and opposite Mascot Hotel, and the designated bus stop near the KHRWS paywards in Medical College are the junctions identified in Phase I of the project. The two bus shelters near Palayam University Hostel would be converted into air-conditioned system soon.<\/p>\n
