A swanky air-conditioned waiting room has been opened at Ernakulam Junction railway station.<\/p>\n

People visiting the Ernakulam Junction railway station will now be able to enjoy airport lounge-like facilities at the trendy A\/c Waiting hall. People can check into the waiting room operated Kudumbasree by paying Rs 20 per head for an hour.<\/p>\n

The executive lounge will have comfy sofas, television, Wi-Fi, mobile charging points, kids\u2019 playing zone, space for breastfeeding women and gents and ladies washrooms. It also has a mini-library, train-on-call service changing room for infants and digital display of trains arrival and departure timings.<\/p>\n

The toilets and lavatories attached to the waiting room will be kept spick and span by Kudumbashree workers. ‘Train-on-call’ is a free service to be provided on request wherein a passenger can demand volunteers on duty to remind him\/her about the train and coach position he\/she wishes to travel.<\/p>\n

At a time, the hall can accommodate 40 passengers. Those using washrooms will be provided with bath towels, hand wash, etc. Four Kudumbashree Mission volunteers will be on 24X7 duty. There is a reception booth managed by courteous staff, who will offer all possible assistance to the commuters.<\/p>\n

The lounge has been set up at a cost of Rs.3 lakh and the fund was raised from the savings of parking lot service. In the initial phase, Kudumbashree and railways will share the revenue on an 80:20 ratio. It will be revised after a month.<\/p>\n

This is the second air-conditioned waiting hall after Thiruvananthapuram central railway station.<\/p>\n
