A year after the widening works of the national highway from Kazhakoottam to Mukkola started, the project has completed only 15% according to a latest report.<\/p>\n
According to the reports, the project’s tenure is 24 months and by this time around 50% of the work should have been completed. Hyderabad-based KNR Constructions the firm who is undertaking the construction work now faces a daunting task of completing the project over the next 12 months.<\/p>\n

The construction was delayed owning to many problems. The two main hurdles that is delaying the project is the construction of an approach ramp to the international airport at Chackai and a bridge across the Tettiyar, near Infosys campus. \u00a0Meanwhile, NHAI is yet to finalize the design of the construction of an elevated highway from Kazhakoottam to Technopark, which was proposed last year when the work began.<\/p>\n
The demolition of the existing ramp and the construction of a new one is stuck as NHAI and Airports Authority of India (AAI) are yet to agree on the design. It is reported that AAI is not pleased with the gradient (steepness) fixed by the NHAI for the ramp. AAI have asked NHAI to raise the level of service road so as to reduce the gradient. However NHAI sources said they could not do that because of the non-availability of land within the airport campus.<\/p>\n
NHAI is yet to finalize the design of the construction of an elevated highway from Kazhakoottam to Technopark, which was proposed last year<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Coming to Tettiyar Bridge District collector Biju Prabhakar had issued a stop memo to the construction of the bridge on June 7. The collector had asked for a change in design as the report submitted by irrigation department had stated that the ongoing work can cause waterlogging.<\/p>\n
