The project to set up air-conditioned modern bus shelters in the capital is yet to take off as the officials fail to finalize the design. The plan approval process by the city corporation will most likely delay the project further.<\/p>\n
The designs are being done by the Indian Institute of Architects. It has been reported that some officials were trying to sabotage the project for their personal gain by changing the designs citing damage to the eco-system.<\/p>\n

District Collector Biju Prabhakar, who is spearheading the project said that the project would be launched on July 11 whatever be the objections.<\/p>\n
\u201cThough there is an inordinate delay in completing the designs by the entrusted agency, we are committed to start the project at the earliest. In fact, we will launch it officially on July 11 itself. If there is any delay\u00a0\u00a0 from the part of city corporation, we will make it possible through \u2018deemed provisions\u2019.\u00a0 If the designs are not completed in the said time, I will hand over the designing job to Nirmithi Kendra or other agencies<\/em> \u201c, said Prabhakar to New Indian Express.<\/p>\n
On the bright side, four banks have shown keen interest to sponsor the project.\u00a0 They are State Bank of Travancore, Bank of Baroda, South Indian Bank and Vijaya Bank. SBT is the largest sponsor and will spend Rs 15 lakh per unit in the initial phase.<\/p>\n
In the first phase, the smart bus shelters will come up in 4 locations – University Library, Corporation Office, Medical College and in front of the Mascot Hotel.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The A\/c bus stops will have facilities like FM radio, Wi-Fi and even ATMs. Apart from this it will also have basic amenities like drinking water facility, electronic information boards which tells the time and schedule of the buses, LED lighting, mobile charging stations etc.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
