After a delay of 2 years, the state government has finally decided to hand over 18 acres to the Trivandrum International Airport, which was earlier allotted by the previous UDF government. The previous government issued an order in 2014 to hand over the land but the airport did not get the land required for the expansion due to public protest.<\/p>\n
The proposed terminal is part of the third and final phase of the ambitious master plan conceived by the AAI in the 1990s.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Around 60 families will have to be rehabilitated before acquiring the land. The land required to\u00a0rehabilitate these 60 families is yet to be identified. An all-party meeting will be convened before acquiring the land.<\/p>\n
The original requirement sent by the airport was 82 acres. Around 18 acres was allotted considering the urgency for expansion of terminal II building of the international airport. With this, the prospect of a new domestic terminal, adjacent to the international terminal complex, has brightened. In addition to 82 acres for terminal expansion, the international airport requires around 10 acres for taxi parking and 14 acres for expansion of runway.<\/p>\n
