In a rare celestial spectacle, sky watchers will have an opportunity to see five planets adorning the sky together just before sunset.<\/p>\n
Starring in the rare celestial line-up will be five of the solar system’s eight planets – Saturn, Mars and Jupiter and if lucky Mercury and Venus too. The orbit of each will put them on the same side of the sun, making all five visible to the naked eye.<\/p>\n
This is happening for the first time in 11 years and it won’t happen again until 2018.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
But for clear visibility, a telescopic night sky observation program is being organised for visitors at Priyadarshini Planetarium here in Trivandrum from Friday.<\/p>\n
Priyadarshini Planetarium is organizing a night sky observation program for the public from 7 pm to 8 pm on Saturday (6\/08\/2016). The ticket rates for sky observation at the Planetarium include Rs 25 for an adult and Rs 15 for a child.<\/p>\n
The orbit of each will put them on the same side of the sun, making all five visible to the naked eye.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
The sky observation will be ensured through the two 11-inch telescopes at the Planetarium. If the rains do not play spoilsport, then there is a chance to see five planets on the horizon. Mercury and Venus is towards the west of Jupiter and spotting that will be tough. Normally, it will be cloudy on the western horizon and Venus will towards the edge, the KSSTM scientists said. The Moon will be closer to Mercury and in all possibility it will appear brighter in the western sky.<\/p>\n
