<\/p>\nSeason five of 92.7 Big FM’s campaign against drug abuse \u2018Vande Keralam’ has launched here in Trivandrum with a grand function held at the Shangumugham Beach.<\/p>\n
RJ \u2018Kidilam\u2019 Firoz who will lead the protest against drug abuse was symbolically handcuffed in the presence of Suresh Gopi MP, Archbishop Soosapakiam and District Collector Biju Prabhakar.<\/p>\n

For five consecutive days starting August 9, RJ Firoz will conduct an RJ marathon from a “jail” in the Martyrs\u2019 Column in Palayam in the presence of Excise Commissioner Rishiraj Singh.\u00a0 Commissioner Rishiraj Singh will put RJ Firoz in the symbolic jail where he will continue his fight against drugs. The protest will continue until at least 927 people take an oath to renounce drugs.<\/p>\n

During the curtain raiser event of VandeKeralam Season 5 outgoing collector Biju Prabhakar said that it is a shock that Kerala is not far behind in the list of states that has a drug problem. \u201cThe district administration has taken steps to curb the usage, but there is a need for campaigns like this<\/em>,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, Soosapakiam said that use of drugs and alcohol casts a shadow over the good image of Kerala. \u201cThe use of alcohol among people below 25 years has increased tenfold during the past decade. And Drug abuse is a complicated issue and therefore, the solution for it is also complicated<\/em>,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n Suresh Gopi, who is also the brand ambassador of Vande Keralam was in the opinion that ban on sale alcohol has only forced people to look for alternatives. “Every child has a responsibility not just to the family he is born into but to the country and we should fight against whatever that curtails it<\/em>,\u201d Suresh Gopi MP said during the event.<\/p>\n Vande Keralam campaign by Big FM was launched in 2008 and the fourth season of the campaign had helped 1,122 people give up the habit of drug and alcohol use. A mass pledge taking ceremony was conducted and everyone present at the event together pledged their fight against drugs.
