Trivandrum Corporation will conduct a plastic collection drive in the city tomorrow (31-August-2016) through special counters at various places. The plastic collection drive is being organized as part of corporation’s ‘My City, Beautiful City’ campaign.<\/p>\n
The areas where counters will be opened are Kazhakkoottam ward committee office, Vanchiyur junction, health inspector office at Chackai, Chithira Thirunal Park at East Fort, Jagathy ground, Poojapura ground, Pippinmoodu junction and Pipeline Road, Kowdiar. The counters will function from 8am to 12noon.<\/p>\n

Only plastic waste which has been cleaned and dried will be collected at these counters. Corporation has already started collecting plastic waste directly from houses in certain wards. The collected waste will be handed over to a company based in Tamil Nadu to transport plastic waste for recycling at a cost of Rs 8,500 per load.<\/p>\n

Earlier Corporation faced trouble disposing of plastic waste collected through collection drives. The joint venture with Clean Kerala Company has not paid much dividends and the corporation was forced to find private parties to transport plastic waste. The civic body has invested Rs 50 lakh as share in Clean Kerala Company.<\/p>\n
Trivandrum Corporation will also set up three permanent resource recovery centres to collect plastic waste and the present issues with Clean Kerala Company could be resolved once the resource recovery centres are set up.
