The two highways were cleared at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and attended by Minister for Public Works G. Sudhakaran and Finance Minister T. M. Thomas Isaac.<\/p>\n<p>Kerala will build a\u00a0 1,195-km Hill Highway covering 13 districts (except Alappuzha) and a 606-km Coastal Highway linking nine districts at a cost of Rs.10,000 crore.\u00a0 The Rs.6,000-crore Hill Highway has been proposed from Nandarappadavu in Kasaragod to Kadukkara, near Parassala, in Trivandrum. The Coastal Highway will cost Rs.4,000 crore.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Kerala will build a\u00a0 1,195-km Hill Highway covering 13 districts (except Alappuzha) and a 606-km Coastal Highway linking nine districts at a cost of Rs.10,000 crore.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The alignment of the hill highway which passes through 45 Assembly constituencies, has been worked out by NATPAC. Both the highways will have a carriageway of seven metres. Modern technology and new materials such as concrete, plastic, rubber and geotextiles will be used for laying the roads.<\/p>\n<h3>The route of Hill Highway<\/h3>\n<p>The hill highway in Wayanad will start\u00a0 from Nandarappadavu to Cherupuzha (110Km), and enters Kannur at Cherupuzha till Ambayathode (109KM). The highway then passes through Boy\u2019s Town to Kunihome (96Km) in Wayanad before entering Kozhikode.<\/p>\n<p>At Kozhikode, the highway will go from Vilangadu to Veliyamthodu (110Km) and enters Malappuram from Arunapuzha to Pookkottampadam a distance of 101km. The 130-km stretch in Palakkad district will be from Ponppara to Panthalampadam and from Panthalampadam to Vettilappara in Thrissur (60 km).<\/p>\n<p>Further, it passes through Ernakulam from Vettilpara to Elampasseri (104Km). While at Idukki it will be from Elampaserri to Mundakkayam (166 km) and reaches Erumeli, and Plachery in Kottayam (24 km). The hill highway will have 46 km in Pathanamthitta district, 64 km in Kollam, and 75 km in Thiruvananthapuram district.<\/p>\n<p>The Public Works Department had been asked to submit a detailed project report in four months.
