The shifting of utility lines along the Mukkola-Karode stretch of the National Highway-66 bypass will begin within a week.<\/p>\n

The estimate of the cost required to shift the utilities submitted by the Kerala Water Authority (KWA) and the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) have already been approved by the highway authority. Kerala water authority submitted an estimate of Rs2.05 crore while KSEB submitted an estimate of Rs.4 crore.<\/p>\n

Due to the long delay faced during the widening the Kazhakuttom-Mukkola stretch (1st phase), NHAI is trying to avoid another delay by shifting the public utilities early for the second phase. The delay in shifting utilities along the first phase had led to various difficulties including pushing the deadline of completion and disrupting work schedule.<\/p>\n

The construction of the second phase of the NH-Bypass is awarded to L&T Construction. The company is nearing the completion of the clearing the stretch which involved the removal and disposal of vegetation from the site. The earth work, including cutting and filling to make the ground level, has also commenced at Pazhayakada, near Kanjiramkulam.<\/p>\n

The second phase has a length of 16.5km and passes through Kottukal, Kanjiramkulam, Thirupuram, Chenkal and Karode. A major portion of the land had been acquired from the public.
