After months of delay, the problem with the approach ramp at Chakkai leading to the gate of Trivandrum International Airport has been resolved.<\/p>\n
As per the new proposal, a new flyover will be constructed connecting the ramp at the international airport thereby saving an amount of Rs.30 crore. The proposal made by the former director of NATPAC, N S Srinivasan for easy movement of vehicles arriving and leaving the terminal-2 of the airport is under the consideration of Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH).<\/p>\n
With this new solution, the cost of demolishing and reconstruction of the approach ramp and time can be saved.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
This is how they are going to solve the problem<\/h3>\n
A one-way two-lane flyover parallel to the ramp will be constructed for movement of NH traffic from Enchakkal to Chakkai side. There will not be any intersection opposite to the airport access on the National Highway. Traffic from Chakkai to Enchakkal side will move uninterrupted at the ground level parallel to the flyover. The ramp will become part of the highway and will be barricaded from the service road. The flyover will be built on stilts.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the vehicles going to the airport from Chakkai will have to go towards Enchakkal, make a U-turn below the flyover and take the up-ramp to the airport. Similarly, vehicles from the airport going to Enchakkal will turn left from the airport, take the down ramp, make a U-turn below the flyover and proceed on National Highway towards Enchakkal. The service road on the airport side will be provided with an underpass below the approach ramp.<\/p>\n
The road widening of the NH-66 Bypass as delayed a lot due to the difference in opinion over the ramp. Earlier it was planned to demolish the ramp but the idea was not favoured by the Airport Authority of India.
