<\/p>\nThe hydrofoil high-speed boat service connecting Kochi with Kozhikode will start soon said Ports Minister Kadannapally Ramachandran.<\/p>\n
The two high-speed hydrofoil vessel procured from Greece is currently waiting for technical clearance to begin operations. The aim of high-speed boat service is to promote coastal shipping by providing an alternative mode of transport for commuters. This will help to decongest Kerala’s road network.<\/p>\n

The high-speed boat will connect Marine Drive in Kochi with Beypore port in Kozhikode. Later in the second phase, a service from Vizhinjam port in Trivandrum to Kochi will also start.<\/p>\n
When the project is realized, entire trip from the Trivandrum to Kozhikode could hopefully be completed in around five hours.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
The high-speed boat service will cut down travel time between Kochi and Kozhikode to just three hours, with the boat travelling at around 35 knots per hour which is about 60 km per hour. At present, a bus ride from Kochi to Kozhikode takes around 6 hours at least. The service will be conducted daily but only during the daytime.<\/p>\n

The double-engine boats that cost Rs15 crore can accommodate up to 130-odd passengers. The bats are fully air-conditioned and are equipped with pantries along with many entertainment facilities on board.<\/p>\n

The ticket rates are not yet fixed but one can expect the rate to be around Rs.1,000 per head. It is said that government will provide a subsidy on the tickets.<\/p>\n
