German and UAE consulates will start function in Capital from this month. Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan will formally inaugurate the honorary consulate of Germany at 6pm on Friday at a function to be held at Vivanta By Taj, Vazhuthacaud<\/p>\n
With the honorary consulate of Germany and the consulate of UAE, the number of consulates functioning in the city will be five.<\/p>\n
The purpose of the consulates is to provide legal support to citizens of the sending nation. It is also essential for good trade relations between the countries.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
The honorary consulate will function at the Goethe-Zentrum campus, Kunnukuzhy road. Syed Ibrahim, director of the German language and cultural centre, Goethe-Zentrum, will be appointed as honorary consul for Kerala and he will be installed in his office by the Consul General Margit Hellwig-Boette.<\/p>\n
Syed Ibrahim\u00a0 is also the honorary representative of the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce and last year the German president awarded him the ‘Cross of the Order of Merit’ to recognize his contributions in improving Indo-German relations.<\/p>\n
The first honorary consulate to come up in the city was Russian consulate in 2008. It was followed by Sri Lanka in 2014.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Meanwhile, the UAE consulate will also start functioning by next week. All related documents for the consulate have been signed by the state government and the government of UAE. The UAE officials are waiting for dates of dignitaries for the inaugural.<\/p>\n
