Rs.6.42 crore Project will install based vehicle tracking system with camera facilities on 16,000 transport vehicles in Kerala, including the private stage carriers and inter-State vehicles carrying petroleum products, for real-time monitoring and enforcement. The project will be carried out by C-DAC for Motor Vehicles Department.<\/p>\n
The new tracking system will help MVD to check over speeding and speed restrictions enforced in front of schools and hospitals through geo-fencing.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Obtaining road map platforms was the hurdle for the rollout of the GPS-based tracking system and it has been overcome now. Although Google, Heremap, OpenStreet Map, KSDI, KSREC, Keltron were considered, MapmyIndia was selected as it offered the lowest rate with Rs.1.27 crore. Another reason to select MapmyIndia is the accuracy they offer which is 10 Meters.<\/p>\n
In order to track vehicle, MVD will setup a Master control room at the Trans Tower in Trivandrum and also 17 mini-control rooms in all 14 districts. \u00a0A vehicle tracking unit will be installed in each vehicle and the 20-second pulse generated from it will be tagged and certified by the MVD. This data will be handed over to Master Control room and regional control rooms for better monitoring. Once the system is on-line, MVD will be able to track the location, speed, and direction of the vehicles it is heading.<\/p>\n
