In a bid to turn state capital into a hot tourist destination, the district tourism promotion council (DTPC) has come up with a plan to give a facelift to various destinations in the district.<\/p>\n
As per the plan 10 popular tourist destination in the city will undergo a major revamp as part of tourism Department’s ‘Green Carpet’ scheme. The project aims to upgrade Trivandrum\u2019s tourist spots into world-class standards in terms of cleanliness and facilities.<\/p>\n

The chosen destinations are Kanakakunnu, Veli Tourist Village, Akkulam, Ponmudi, Shankumugham, Varkala, Kovalam, Kappil, Neyyar, and Aruvikkara.<\/p>\n
Periodic cleaning activities will be carried out in these destinations with the help of NSS volunteers, resident associations and NGO’s. Kudumbasree and Suchitwa Mission will also be roped in to make sure tourist spots are always clean.<\/p>\n
The aim is to transform the entire district into a single destination for both domestic and foreign tourists.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Other activities include in the Green Carpet project is scientific solid waste management system, well-maintained public toilets and tourist facilities, facilities for safe drinking water and food and increased safety and security arrangements. It also includes the adoption of green principles and hiring trained and responsible staff. There will also be a feedback and complaint redressal system and specially designated destination managers to assist tourists.<\/p>\n
