A single girder has an approximate length of 24 metres and is being fixed on the pillars. It will also have space for footpaths on either side. When it is opened to the public, one-way traffic will be implemented through the old and new bridge in both directions. The new bridge at Akkulam is a major section in the widening of Kazhakootam-Mukkola stretch as it helps to connect the city with the IT corridor.<\/p>\n<p>Apart from Akkulam Bridge, a railway over-bridge at Chakkai and a bridge at Thiruvallam are also being constructed. The construction of pillars of Chakkai ROB is underway. While, the preliminary works for the bridge at Thiruvallam too has begun.
