More than 10,000 schools in Kerala will be equipped with free Wi-Fi as part of improving IT infrastructure in schools.<\/p>\n
The IT@School project, in association with BSNL, is all set to provide Wi-Fi with 2Mbps with unlimited data usage to 10,000 government and aided schools this academic year. The initiative will start from November 1.<\/p>\n

“This step would mark the beginning of improving IT infrastructure in primary section, as an extension of the High-Tech School <\/em>program through which classes from 8 to 12 are being upgraded with the aid of information and communication technology (ICT) tools,<\/em>” said education minister C Raveendranath to Times of India.<\/p>\n
The BSNL would complete the installation of broadband connections to 40% of the schools before the end of December and the remaining by March 2017. The company will also set up a unique web portal and call center facility for addressing issues pertaining to internet connectivity provided to the schools. For those schools s that do not have telephone connection at present BSNL will also provide a special phone connection for broadband connectivity.<\/p>\n
There will also be an e-monitoring mechanism to ensure safe and secure use of internet provided to the schools and also to gauge its effectiveness at regular intervals.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
