In a bid to provide smooth vehicular traffic and ensure hassle-free movement of pedestrians, three Foot overbridge have been proposed in the East Fort area.<\/p>\n
The pedestrian grade separated facility has been recommended by the Natpac at 3 locations in East Fort at a cost of Rs.13.2 crore.<\/p>\n
To handle the heavy flow of pedestrian movement on the Attakkulangara side an L-shaped foot over bridge has been proposed in front of Gandhi Park at a cost Rs. 6.4 crore. Pedestrians can use this foot overbridge to cross the main road, and get down in front of the fort wall. This foot overbridge will have an escalator for easy movement. Also, pedestrian movement across Chalai Road towards the Attakulangara School will be catered by this overbridge. A step and escalators will be required near the Attakulangara School. Shops in the south side of the fort wall area will have to be relocated.<\/p>\n
For the pedestrians crossing the road between KSRTC depot and Gandhi Park, Natpac has proposed a second foot over bridge between Gandhi Part and the KSRTC depot for Rs. 3 crore. Steps\/escalators will be provided by the side of the KSRTC depot and Gandhi Park. The pedestrian movement in this area is very high and there is a chance of getting hit by a bus if you are a pedestrian as the bus enters the depot.<\/p>\n
The third flyover will come up at Pazhavangadi across the main road near Pazhavangadi Sree Mahaganapathy Temple. A vacant plot in between the temple and the Supplyco building and a piece of land in front of Putharikandom Maidan will have to be used for this. Escalators have been proposed on either side.<\/p>\n
Fortunately all three foot over bridge have been proposed on free and government land. That means there won\u2019t be any delay in acquiring land. When the projects gets completed it will significantly reduce the frequent pedestrian accidents happening in East Fort.
