Distracting hoardings and advertisements near traffic signals will be cleared soon. A meeting convened by district collector S Venkatesapathi has ordered to clear all advertisements near traffic signals with immediate effect.<\/p>\n
The move was taken considering the chances of advertisements distracting the attention of drivers thereby resulting in accidents. Arches, flex boards and hoardings on both sides of the roads and near medians will be removed. The meeting was attended by city police commissioner G Sparjan Kumar, rural SP Shafeen Ahammed, transport officials, officials of Keltron, PWD, fire and rescue services etc.<\/p>\n

District Administration has directed ADM John V Samuel to set up an emergency meeting with people’s representatives and officials to discuss the removal of flex boards and hoardings.<\/p>\n
Anil Kumar Pandala, Vice-president of the Thiruvananthapuram road development company limited (TRDCL) has said that large number of LED video advertisement screens are acting as distractions for motorists. . “One such screen was put up by the Kerala Water Authority near the Museum junction. TRDCL has sent several petitions to the district administration and the road safety authority to remove them, but no action was taken<\/em>,” he said to TOI.<\/p>\n

TRDCL is in charge of maintaining the roads developed under the CRIP programme.
