Those who dump waste on the roadside under the cover of night will land in trouble. DGP Loknath Behera has instructed all police stations to take action those dumping waste in public places or burning plastic, under Kerala Police Act.<\/p>\n
As per section 120 (e) of the Act, “If any person defiles water sources or water supply or cause hindrance to public sanitation activities or make public place dirty or causes serious damage to environment unlawfully shall, on conviction, be punishable with imprisonment which may extend to one year or with fine which may extend to Rs 5,000 or with both.”<\/em><\/p>\n Offenders will also be charged under sections 278 and 269 which deals with people who voluntarily pollute the atmosphere making it noxious for health and those indulging in negligent acts that are likely to spread infection or disease.<\/p>\n Police have come up with a 4-stage action plan with the help of Suchitwa Mission. In the first stage, locations where waste is dumped in large quantities or plastic is burnt and places where water bodies are polluted by exposing them to waste materials would be identified.<\/p>\n Offenders will also be charged under sections 278 and 269 which deals with people who voluntarily pollute the atmosphere making it noxious for health.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Whereas in the second stage, Police would see the help from resident’s associations to initiate awareness campaign against such activities. In the third phase, those who indulge in such activities despite the campaign would be warned and in the final stage, legal action would be taken against them.<\/p>\n Station house officers, circle inspectors, deputy superintendents and SPs will be roped in to co-ordinate the action plan.
