From now on Our Vizhinjam will have something common with Brazil’s Rio de Janeiro. Just like the \u2018Christ the Redeemer\u2019 statue that looks down upon Rio, Vizhinjam too also got a similar statute though in dimensions much smaller.<\/p>\n

Major Archbishop Soosa Pakiam M. of the Latin archdiocese of Thiruvananthapuram consecrated the statue at the Holy Mass held on Sunday evening. Consecrating the statue, the Archbishop said that the statue and the chapel would become a centre of solace for everyone.<\/p>\n

The entire population in the area converged under the statue to witness the consecration.\u00a0 The statue and the attached chapel are part of the St. Mary\u2019s (Our Lady of Voyage) Church, situated uphill.<\/p>\n

Dimension of the Vizhinjam’s Christ The Redeemer statue has been fixed based on the number of years Jesus is believed to have lived \u2013 33.\u00a0 Hence the statue stands tall with a height of 33 feet and has a total width and the total width with the arms outstretched is 33 ft. From the ground, the statue stands at a height of 90 ft. The Rio statue is 98-ft tall and its arms stretch is 92-ft wide.<\/p>\n

The statue was created by Rajesh Amal, a sculptor based in Menamkulam. He says it took him two years to complete this statue. The statue is entirely made of concrete.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
