It is conceived by Shri.KK.Kalasree and Ramachandra Pulavar.<\/p>\n<p>Tholpava Koothu, the unique shadow puppet theatre form of Kerala, is dedicated to Bhagavati. As a ritualistic art form, Tholpava Koothu is performed during the months of January to May at the specially constructed theatre called Koothu Madam in front of the Bhagavati temple. It will be enjoyed by the general public as a popular entertainment while it will be received as a religious offering by the devotees.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-27540 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/entecity.com\/news\/files\/2017\/02\/shadow-puppet-1.jpg\" width=\"960\" height=\"720\" srcset=\"https:\/\/entecity.com\/news\/files\/2017\/02\/shadow-puppet-1.jpg 960w, https:\/\/entecity.com\/news\/files\/2017\/02\/shadow-puppet-1-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/entecity.com\/news\/files\/2017\/02\/shadow-puppet-1-684x513.jpg 684w, https:\/\/entecity.com\/news\/files\/2017\/02\/shadow-puppet-1-120x90.jpg 120w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Puppets are made of deer skin and are held by a thin stick in one hand while the limbs are manipulated by a thinner stick held in another hand of the puppeteer. Each puppet has an average size of 80cm and is cut out in different postures. It is said that around 60 puppets are used for the complete version of the &#8220;Kamba Ramayana&#8221;, representing 71 characters. Meanwhile, the screen is illuminated by 21 lighted lamps, made out of coconut shelves. The puppets are arranged behind a long white curtain stretches across the Koothumadom. The chief puppeteer is known as Pulavan.<\/p>\n<p>At present, this art form is confined to Thrissur and Palakkad districts.
