In an ambitious move to provide internet facility at cheaper or free of cost to every citizen in the state, Kerala government has come up with the project called the K-FON Kerala Fibre Optic Network. The whole project costs at least Rs1000 crore and it would take 10 years to break even.<\/p>\n
But the project also includes setting up a massive wide area network (WAN) connecting all government offices and schools in Kerala. K-Fon will be a joint venture executed by Kerala State IT Infrastructure Ltd KSITIL and Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB).<\/p>\n
The transmission towers of KSEB has provisions to lay Optic Fibre Cables and K-Fon will piggyback on KSEBs infrastructure.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The OFC network will have the landing at places where KSEB transformers are currently set up. Using the service of cable TV or other service operators, the data connectivity can be given to homes in that area.<\/p>\n
The other plan is to establish a WAN connecting all government offices and schools including both aided and non-aided. Since Wan is being used, data security will be higher because it acts as a huge intranet, data in the government server can be accessed without using the internet. The quality of internet connectivity to schools will increase several folds.<\/p>\n
