Two years after Kerala announced its \u201ctransgender policy\u201d, UST Global Based in Technopark has set role model to other companies by hiring its first Transgender employee. \u00a0UST Global\u00a0has appointed transwoman\u00a0Zara Sheikha\u00a0as a\u00a0senior HR associate.<\/p>\n
Zara Sheikha is the first transgender employee in whole of Technopark.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
“I have four-and-a-half years’ experience in the HR field. All these years, I have worked as a man, hiding my transgender identity. I was bullied and faced a lot of harassment while working in a firm in Abu Dhabi. I wanted to live as a woman and I am so happy that UST has accepted me as who I am<\/em>“, said Sheikha who joined UST Global<\/p>\n
Zara Sheikha the 27-year-old Kollam native is a Botany graduate. While most transgender people leave the education due to social isolations and harassment, Zara was not ready to give up.<\/p>\n
“Prijith of <\/em>Queerthe, a Thiruvananthapuram-based NGO that support LGBTQ, helped me come out of my male identity two years ago. Smitha, who is an HR person working among transgender people, collected my CV and helped me get the job. It was Kochi-based Sahaj International that provided me with sensitization classes and skill training. I cleared the three-round interview at UGT Global with great confidence<\/em>,” said Sheikha.<\/p>\n
Zara used to work in a Technopark-based company as a male. She says after she came out as a transgender, people started accepting her. \u00a0\u201cWhen I went to the <\/em>office the first day, I had a sinking feeling as to how others would look at me. Breaking all those pre-conceived notions, they were happy to accommodate me and they all respected my identity. I have a 65-member team and all are highly supportive<\/em>,” she added.<\/p>\n
Finding a home is another challenge as many homeowners refused to give houses for transgender people. Luckily, UST Global again saved her by giving her accommodation for a month so that she can do my house hunt without any issues.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
