Business establishments which are concerned about parking problems and traffic congestion can now opt to link their buildings with metro stations.<\/p>\n
The Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) is ready to construct dedicated corridors linking commercial establishments with the metro station in the immediate vicinity of these buildings.<\/p>\n
With elevated corridors and interconnections, the footfall in these establishments will be increased and KMRL will benefit from it in the form of user fee. Many private establishments have come forward to connect their building with metro stations.<\/p>\n
‘Namma Metro’ in Bengaluru has implemented the concept of constructing steel structures linking commercial buildings and Metro stations.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
“LuLu Mall at Edappally has expressed its interest in the construction of a steel corridor connecting their building and Edappally Metro station. The procedures for carrying out the work are progressing<\/em>,” said KMRL spokesperson to TOI.<\/p>\n
KMRL said that the business houses will have to meet construction costs as well as maintenance charges of these steel bridges. In the case of Lulu Mall, the mall will have to pay KMRL an amount of Rs50lakh as the one-time payment.<\/p>\n
Linking shopping mall to metro is a great move as it will fetch higher rent. Also, people shopping in large supermarkets will be able to push their carts and walk into the Metro stations.<\/p>\n
The new revolutionary move is expected to bring down the dependence on private cars and vehicles as shoppers will not have to bring their cars to the city or waste time finding a parking space.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
