Minister Kadakampally Surendran will inaugurate the Phase 2 works on June 12 at 4 pm.<\/p>\n<p>The aim is to make Akkulam as an idyllic picnic spot for the city residents and to restore it to its former glory to attract tourist again.<\/p>\n<h2>New and exciting things are coming to Akkulam<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-27921 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/entecity.com\/news\/files\/2017\/06\/akkulam-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"405\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Digital music fountain, amphitheatre, art installation, cricket bowling pitch, cycle track, and winch transportation to the hilltop are among a slew of recreational facilities that will come up at Akkulam.<\/p>\n<p>The artificial waterfall and pavilion of the swimming pool will be renovated. The pond below the hill top will be renovated with bowl boats, and recreational space atop the hilltop will be turned into a beautiful spot.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-27922 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/entecity.com\/news\/files\/2017\/06\/akkulam-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"405\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Landscaping and beautification<\/h2>\n<p>Apart from these, the whole sprawling 6.5-acre property will be landscaped and a compound wall will be constructed. There will also be a facility for adventure sporting facility, new play equipment for the children\u2019s park, restaurant and a help desk. A water treatment plant, waste management, and electrification are the other components to be created in the tourist village.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-27923 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/entecity.com\/news\/files\/2017\/06\/akkulam.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"405\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Phase-1 was a total failure<\/h2>\n<p>The phase-1 of the project\u00a0which was entrusted to the Nirmithi Kendra was a total failure and the tourist village has been closed down since 2012. Boating in Akkulam lake had come to a grinding halt, as the lake was infested with water hyacinth. The removal of water weed and dredging has not been successful.
