A week after the official launch of Kochi Metro, the preliminary works for Trivandrum Metro rail project is gaining momentum again.<\/p>\n
As part of the Metro project, four flyovers have been planned at Sreekaryam, Pattom, Uloor and Thampanoor. The works of these 4 flyovers will be undertaken by Kerala Rapid Transit Corporation. DMRC has already submitted the plan for the flyovers and the contract for constructing these flyovers will be given to DMRC soon.<\/p>\n
Development of junctions and four flyovers is aimed to reduce the traffic congestion and to cater the ever increasing vehicle density in the city. The government has already given administrative sanction for these flyovers.<\/p>\n
To speed up the land acquisition, the government has formed a separate unit called the Land acquisition unit under the Revenue department. The unit has started functioning and already they have demarcated 1.34 hectares of land along the Sreekaryam stretch.<\/p>\n
The problem with Sreekaryam junction is that four main roads meet here and they are all narrow. As part of junction development, approach roads will be widened and a roundabout will be constructed to ease the traffic. The flyover here will cost an amount of Rs 135 crore<\/p>\n
The existing railway over the bridge will be widened to a\u00a04-lane road and an extra two-lane flyover will be constructed from RMS junction. DMRC is yet to prepare the final draft of the flyover.<\/p>\n
The revenue department has said that the process of land acquisition for the flyover will start soon. Authorities hope the local residents and business people will cooperate with the metro project. Attractive packages will be given to those who surrender their land.<\/p>\n
An amount of Rs300 crore will be needed to acquire land for the flyover alone at these four junctions. A board meeting of KIIFB has given the green signal to hand over the amount to Kerala Rapid Transit Corporation for land acquisition.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
