Trivandrum has finally joined the smart city club. Now the Capital will start the Smart City project within 100 days. As much as Rs. 1,538 Crore<\/a> will be spent on the development project in Trivandrum under the Smart City Scheme.<\/p>\n

Mayor VK Prasanth has formulated a 100-days action plan to start the Smart City project which includes the formation of special teams and consultancies. Currently, the civic body is waiting for the official confirmation letter from the central government. The first step is to appoint a consultancy to carry out the project. For this tender works have to be done which will take at least 2 months.<\/p>\n

Priority is given to improving Core City Area infrastructure<\/h2>\n

Improving the basic infrastructure of the 1,400-acre core city area is the main focus of the Smart City initiative. The core area consists of Chala, Thampanoor, Fort, Vazuthcaud, Thycaud, Valiyasala and Palayam.<\/p>\n

As much as Rs. 1,538 Crore will be spent on the development project in Trivandrum under the Smart City Scheme.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Apart from core areas, Attukal, Veli, Kazhakuttam, National Highway 66 bypass corridor, Vizhinjam, Medical College, Outer Corridors were also identified.<\/p>\n

Alternative Energy Sources and water management<\/h2>\n

Solar plants and rainwater harvesting will be promoted in all government offices and residential areas. There is a separate scheme for improving the drinking water supply distribution. Smart water meters will be implanted to reduce the wastage of water.<\/p>\n

Efficient Traffic management and improved security<\/h2>\n

Smart Traffic system will be introduced on the roads of capital to reduce traffic congestion. More security cameras will be installed to improve the safety and security in the city. Separate pathways will be provided for cycles and pedestrian so that they won’t obstruct the vehicular traffic. Multi-level parking facilities will be created to reduce parking woes in the city.<\/p>\n

Focus on health management<\/h2>\n

Storm drains will be improved to avoid water logging and there will be data centre to monitor solid waste treatment. There will be a separate facility for disaster management in the event of emergencies. Facilities at primary health centres and Anganvadis will be improved.<\/p>\n

Government offices to go smart<\/h2>\n

In order to improve the efficiency at local-self government offices, smart technologies will be implemented. This means delays in obtaining government services will become a thing of the past. Biometric attendance system will be implemented at all offices.<\/p>\n

Trivandrum had missed the smart city list during the first two times. However, during the 3rd list, Kerala capital made it to the club bagging the top position.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Other projects include increasing the green cover of the city, making the city disabled-friendly, rehabilitation of the street vendors and centralised system for accessing all of civic body\u2019s services under one window.<\/p>\n
