With an aim to tap into the backwater tourism potential of Trivandrum, the District Tourism Promotion Council will soon launch a cruise service between Kadinamkulam and Akathumuri in the district. The plan was announced by Tourism Minister Kadakampally Surendran.<\/p>\n
The route of the cruise service will be from Kadinamkulam – Perumathura – Anchuthengu – Kayikkara – Ponnumthuruthu – Panayilkkadavu – Akathumuri.<\/p>\n
The government will encourage private players to start houseboat service on the route. The project will be implemented by the Trivandrum District Tourism Promotion Council.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Boats that can cater 20 people at a time<\/h2>\n
Boats similar to \u2018shikharas\u2019 used in Kashmir\u2019s Dal Lake will be used for the service. Each boat can carry up to 20 people. Floating jetties will come up at Perumathura, Anchuthengu, Kayikkara, Ponnumthuruthu, Panayilkkadavu and Akathumuri.<\/p>\n
Basic amenities<\/h2>\n
The boat terminal will house basic facilities such as toilets complex, refreshment stalls and restaurants. A facility for rest and refreshment will be arranged at Panayilkkadavu.<\/p>\n

Private players to be roped in<\/h2>\n
The government will encourage private players to start houseboat service on the route. The project will be implemented by the Trivandrum District Tourism Promotion Council. Boats and the cruise service will always operate under the strict environmental laws.<\/p>\n
