Unknown to many\u00a0people is the fact that Kundamankadavu bridge is the oldest in the city which dates back to 1898.<\/p>\n<p>The 120-year old bridge which was built during the British-era provided a vital link connecting suburban parts of the city such Kattakada and Malayinkil to the city core area. Just before the commissioning of the new bridge, this old iron bridge was the only main route to Kattakada. Years of neglect and increased vehicular traffic have made the bridge unsafe.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The 120-year old bridge which was built during the British-era provided a vital link connecting suburban parts of the city such Kattakada and Malayinkil to the city.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\">Similiar to Manaveeyam Veedhi<\/h2>\n<p>Now the the century-old bridge is going to become a cultural spot as the efforts are on to make the bridge into a well-known heritage monument. The plan is to make the bridge into a \u2018cultural Corridor\u2019 just like the Manaveeyam Veedhi in Vellayambalam. The venue will host a cultural event one evening every week.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\">A Bio-diversity park on the anvil<\/h2>\n<p>There are also plans to establish a bio-diversity park under the bridge. The park will come up on the banks of the river. The State Biodiversity Board has been asked to submit a plan for this.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The plan is to make the bridge into a \u2018cultural Corridor\u2019 just like the Manaveeyam Veedhi in Vellayambalam.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Kattakada MLA IB Satheesh has announced his decision to conserve the bridge. This includes regular night beats by residents\u2019 association members under the leadership of local body leaders.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u00a0Lights will be installed to make the bridge more attractive during the night.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Other measures include, installation of hi-mast lights to make the bridge more attractive during the night and installation of CCTV cameras to catch people who dump waste in the area.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\">There is no other bridge like\u00a0Kundamankadavu in Kerala<\/h2>\n<p>The century-old bridge was constructed by British and maintained by the military. It is said that Kundamankadavu bridge is very unique in its structure and there is no similar bridge in state that can match this bridge.
