The protected monument is currently undergoing a Rs62 Lakh renovation by the state Archaeology department.<\/p>\n<p>The renovations works are expected to be completed in the next few months. The renovation is being undertaken as part of a project to set up a District Heritage Museum on the premises.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\">Restoring the former glory<\/h2>\n<p>The renovation includes replacing the roof tiles that were damaged due to no-maintenance. Work on replacing the floor tiles with terracotta tiles is set to get under way. The old wooden steps towards the first floor will be re-laid to correct the slope and the windows which doesn\u2019t have slats that can be tilted open and shut have been fitted with new functional slats.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>A 250-year old naalukettu on the premises has been restored to its original shape.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>A high compound wall which is not part of the original structure will be removed. A 250-year old naalukettu on the premises has been restored to its original shape.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\">Restoring the pond<\/h2>\n<p>The old Sreepadam pond, behind the main palace building, had been cleaned of waste and its sidewalls strengthened. The pond will have to undergo further cleaning as algae has made a comeback. A filtration unit will be installed to make sure that pond stays clean always.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>A high compound wall which is not part of the original structure will be removed.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\">World-class Museum<\/h2>\n<p>Though structural conservation is over, plans are going on to setup the display system that is of international standards for the heritage museum. The museum will showcase the history, culture, and traditions of the district concerned, the displays too will be novel.
