Indian Railways is considering the \u2018Swiss Challenge\u2019 mode for the development of four key railway stations in the state.<\/p>\n
Swiss challenge is the\u00a0common method used in many countries for inviting the bids and awarding the works. It is a way to award a project to a private player on an unsolicited proposal.<\/p>\n
Indian Railway is keen on using Swiss Challenge to \u201ccreate value and revenue\u201d for identified unused railway space in four key railway stations. Already the model is being used for the development of 400-odd railway stations in the country.<\/p>\n
The selected railway station in the country include Thiruvananthapuram, Kottayam and Ernakulam. Railway is inviting companies for setting up temporary kiosk\/stalls on the premises\u00a0of Trivandrum Central, Chengannur, Kottayam, Ernakulam Junction, and Ernakulam Town for exhibition-cum-sales for 10-30 days.<\/p>\n
The private players who would win the bids floated by Railways would be allowed to set up \u201cpleasing and aesthetic kiosks\u201d or stalls for 30 days from August 16 to exhibit and sell handicrafts, flowers, traditional and other clothes, electronic items, crockery items, decorative items at market rates.<\/p>\n
Depending on the success of the initiative during Onam season, Railways would further explore the use of unutilised spaces for longer periods.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
