The 22nd edition of the International film festival of Kerala ( IFFK) has kicked off with the screening of the film ‘Insult’, directed by Lebanese filmmaker\u00a0Ziad Doueiri.<\/p>\n
In the wake of Cyclone, Ockhi\u00a0state government has cancelled the official inauguration and associated programmes being scheduled to be held at Tagore theatre. Tributes were paid to the victims of Ockhi disaster ahead of the first screening at IFFK. Madhavi Mukherjee and festival’s guest of honour Prakash Raj was present at the inaugural screening.<\/p>\n
This year IFFK includes 190 films from 65 countries of which around 40 films will have its first screening.\u00a0The screening will be done in 15 theatres.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
\u201cThere would be 8848 seats. Due to security reasons and demands of theatre owners, entry to theatres will be proportionate to the seats available. Nobody will be allowed to watch the movie sitting on the floor or standing,” said minister for film and culture A K Balan to TOI.<\/p>\n
Fourteen acclaimed films will vie with one another for the Golden Crow Pheasant Award at this year\u2019s IFFK. Four Indian films – Kadvi Hawa (Dark Wind) and Newton, both Hindi films, and Malayalam films Randuper and Aedan will be vying for the award.<\/p>\n
Five acclaimed films by Alexander Sokurov are the major highlights of the festival.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
These will be screened in the section a Retrospective on Alexander Sokurov films. The movies that have been picked for screening are \u2018Father and Son\u2019, \u2018Faust\u2019, \u2018Francofonia\u2019, \u2018Mother and Son\u2019 and \u2018Russian Ark\u2019.<\/p>\n
