Trivandrum International Airport can now handle more flights as the <\/span>\u00a0\u20b9<\/span>69.2-crore parallel taxi track (PTT)\u00a0 has been commissioned. With this, the runway capacity has gone up from 20 flights an hour to 25 flights.<\/p>\n

This will also reduce the runway occupancy time. On an average, the time occupied by an aircraft at runway was 10 to 15 minutes. During this process, an approaching aircraft had to go around or continue circling till the runway is cleared. The aircraft had to burn considerable amounts of fuel. Now, this can be avoided.<\/p>\n

The 1,853 m-long taxi track, constructed parallel to the 3,373-m runway will be able to reduce the runway occupancy time of an aircraft after landing and facilitate an early exit for the flyers from the aircraft.<\/p>\n

Airports Authority of India\u00a0will also give permission to the domestic and foreign airlines that seek to operate more flights. The ability to handle more flights is a blessing to Airline companies especially foreign airlines.<\/p>\n

A Boeing 737-8000 aircraft of Air India Express from Muscat that landed after the operationalisation of the PTT was given a \u2018water salute\u2019 by the fire tenders of the AAI.<\/p>\n
