As part of Jalasamrudhi, a water resource conservation project being implemented in Kattakkada assembly constituency a 1,200-metre-long water stream will be revived in\u00a0Vilappil panchayat.<\/p>\n
Called the Kunjukonam stream, the water stream is a tributary of Karamana River which flows through Kunjukonam ward towards Alakunnu ward.<\/p>\n
The work, included in the employment guarantee scheme, is estimated at Rs 4.80 lakh.\u00a0 “It will be a model project and more streams in the area identified during the survey will be revived in the coming months,” said I B Satheesh MLA.<\/p>\n
The work will be completed in three phases.In the first phase, the path of the stream will be dug up at 2 feet depth and 50cm width.<\/p>\n
In the second phase, the stream which begins from Nilavakodu pond in Kunjukonam, will be linked to the Vittiyam-Alakunnu stream and small check dams will be constructed to control the water flow in the stream. The water will be diverted to nearby land for agriculture purposes.<\/p>\n
While in the third phase, earthen bunds will be constructed to prevent soil erosion. The volunteers of Jalasamrudhi will conduct regular monitoring of the stream.<\/p>\n
The work is expected to be completed in three years. An all-women team will work on the project. A total of 29 women registered under the employment guarantee scheme are assigned for the work.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
