A bubbly sweet voice greeted me through phone. So instead of request I straight away asked her, shall we go for an interview. The busy young director gave me time and today I called her and as expected we chatted as if we are friends. That’s Soumya…the director-actor for you.<\/p>\n

A Trivandrite, a ‘drop-out’ IT professional, assistant director in ‘Cinema Company<\/a>‘, ‘Edavapathy’, ‘Jawan of Vellimala<\/a>‘ and ‘David and Goliath<\/a>‘ and while pursuing her passion to be an acclaimed director Soumya plunged into acting and is excited over the new attire.<\/p>\n

Dreams win over Profession…<\/h3>\n

Intermittent giggles were the only interruption I felt throughout the interview, which was quite sweet and acceptable. She, an IT professional broke the barriers of job-in-hand to pursue her dream in tinsel world. Four years in IT, \u00a0brought in a feeling of mental sickness which is part of stagnancy, so slapped the profession for an exciting life in the film field. It was just matter of hours decision to quit job and be bitten by the travel bug thus she explored Bangalore. Soumya, while roaming around, got hit with ‘Evam’ theaters where she found enthusiastic youngsters and got theater exposure which changed her outlook towards personal and professional life.<\/p>\n

A film kid from early days, when asked how she managed to get family support… she said, parents want me to get a degree and later said will support only for MTech. Then they relented to my desires with concern and now I am in cinema. My first encounter with cinema was assisting Director Mamas who incorporated me with the pre-production of ‘Cinema Company’ where I identified myself, as the film is based on a group of youngsters who want to do film but were unaware about the field.<\/p>\n

Soumya’s life as an actor was an accident when her friend persuaded her to act or rather ‘live the real Soumya’<\/strong> <\/em>for his album ‘Oru naal’. She dreams to become a director and has put her hands in that boiling water with a short-film where she herself acted as the protagonist before acting in the album. Pat came the answer to my question which I gulped through her smile, that lack of money persuaded her to be an actor apart from being the director of the short film. To gain the money back Soumya is all set to put her 4 minutes 48 secs film to film festival so its not to the public for the time being. To Soumya, direction is all over control over script and living through all the characters in the movie, so being a director is something great!<\/p>\n

According to her, acting is a Herculean task, but while acting she understood the pain involved. ‘God, how can one bring in feelings, romance in front of camera’…she thinks aloud<\/strong><\/em>. Watch “David and Goliath” to see Soumya’s acting prowess.<\/p>\n

Diplomacy Rules<\/h4>\n

Malayalam film industry has Revathy<\/a>, Anjali Menon<\/a> and now upcoming Soumya, when listed she became coy and said film industry is a tough world where apart from creativity, you should be a good manager and I have no clue how to make it work. You cannot irk like a corporate to bring out the best, so be a diplomat.<\/p>\n

‘I smile, I admire my smile, my smile is my confidence’<\/strong> <\/em>she says smile gets you away from all the difficulties. Soumya the easy going tomboyish girl is an equally difficult person whom a partner can take in. So at present marriage is not in her cards. She bags her earning by assisting ad shootings and wish to do the twin role of acting-directing till her money issue comes to a perfect settlement.<\/p>\n

Who is Soumya…a travel lover, being with friends, movie watcher and loves to be alone, a true person. ‘I enjoy talking to myself’<\/em><\/strong>, a real dreamer who wants to accomplish all her dreams.<\/p>\n
